part 6

12:36

After I gathered supplies - some food, water, coffee, gas - I drove for almost 7 hours straight. Matt refused to tell me what I was supposed to do until I got there. When I reached 30 km away from the prison, I had to stop at a gas station to use the bathroom (I was dying to take a shit, Jesus, coffee fucks up my stomach) and eat a 'proper' breakfast. By proper, I meant something that wasn't so artificial that if I tested the food for cleaning agents, there wouldn't be any. I had a grilled cheese and hot chocolate - the sweetness of the drink contrasted amazingly well to the dying cold of the coast in Autumn. Matt strangely requested for me to buy watermelon gum and chew as I drive. I remember that at that point, I was too tired to question.

Half an hour later I stopped by the North Side Correctional Department. I could hear Matt shaking inside my head.
'Will you please stop? You're giving me a headache.' I asked.
'He's giving everyone a headache.' Angie commented.
'Yeah, like you have a head to ache.' I said. I was moody and felt like I was the only one that had the right to be pissed. It might seem obvious, but I now recognize none of us wanted to be there as well.
Alison coughed trying to cover up a laugh.
I didn't even smile. The situation was too damn fucked up.
Matt cleared his throat and began to give me instructions:
1) Ask for Thor Valentino. (yes, I know, THOR.)
2) Say that it's his cousin Linda Valentino.
3) Go in the room and don't look him in the eye.

'Then wait so I will guide you on what to say.' he said in a very low, broken voice as if he was afraid of speaking.

I did do all of that. I had a burning feeling in my throat like I had inhaled a joint too roughly and quickly. Who was this guy? Valentino sounded Hispanic. Matt couldn't be Hispanic because of his accent, but maybe his parents were? Or a distant relative? Or a friend? The prison was evil and cold and grey, just like you would imagine it was. They let me in after searching all through my body - and that lady really enjoyed my body as she felt my ass three times and I was guided into this big room, full of chairs and tables, a vending machine outside, cops guarding the door, no windows. Apparently visiting hours had just begun, as Officer Ike told me. Matt and the girls wouldn't stop babbling about how prisons looked like exactly from the movies, and how the snacks changed throughout the years in the vending machines, how the ceiling was so well-painted and whatever.
They all sounded nervous and afflict, so I started tapping my feet up and down so hard Ike told me to stop. They were avoiding all of my questions (I was mentally asking) and I almost got up and went home. What if that guy was a murderer and talking would only increase his urge for blood so he would have to kill me because I'm an easy target? Would Matt put me in danger? I don't know. I didn't know anything then. My eyes were filling with tears of frustration and fear of the unknown, I didn't have to do this, 'this is crazy! I'm risking my life for dead people!'.

I guess I was pretty freaked out, I mean, chances something really bad would happen weren't that high. People in handcuffs aren't as strong as in the novels and etc.

I waited for 10 minutes. I was then when a gorgeous piece of person I've ever laid my eyes on came through the door.. in a faded beige jumpsuit and handcuffs.
His skin was sun-kissed, marked with hours of handwork, his eyes were light green emeralds and his muscles were so well-worked on, and he had a sharp, square jaw and a military-like hair cut. Wow. I even forgot to breathe for a second and everyone in my mind was just gasped like I did.
'You didn't exaggerate on how smokin' hot he is.' Alison said.
'Omg he looks a Spanish Brad Pitt!!' Angie exclaimed, giggling.
'EVERYONE STOP.' Matt shouted. 'Shut up.'
He sounded angry and disturbed and killed the whole vibe of the moment. Real party-pooper.
'Germana just put on your best latino accent and let's go.' he commanded.
'I don't like your tone.'
'Please.' Alison said in a sarcastic tone.
'Whatever, just go!' Angie supported her, and I could feel her rolling her eyes.

Then I went. I was shaking heavily but tried to play cool by  'pouting' and walking shaking my ass.
'Hola, primo, cómo estás?' Matt said as I, as the puppet, replied.
'Who the fuck are you?' Thor asked, his voice husky and low, deep and melodic.
'Ai chico, it's your cousin Linda! Te olvidó de mi?'
'But you are white.' he said. And my olive complexion didn't like it.
'I am not whit-' I began saying and Matt shouted 'SHUT UP!' again.
'Say you are just pale.' he ordered.
'I'm just pale. Ya know, no sun and all.'
'Yeah. I would know.' Valentino replied.
Damn boy. What a burn.
'Anyway, I know we don't know each other well but.. there's someone who needs to talk to you.'
'Dios mío Linda, your mom has put you up for this ghost talk shit? I've told her I don't bel-'
'Nutella toast with cheese at 5 am after The Tonight Show replay.'
I had no idea what this meant, but Thor obviously did. His beautiful jaw dropped and his eyes became cloudy.
'Mattie?' he asked, hesitantly.
'It's me, luv.' Matt said, through me.
